Living in a religious life, I do not know much about musician. Perhaps this is the first opportunity I have to socialize with VHM, a young and talented musician. Talent is not the only thing that has allowed him to step up the social ladder but he has created opportunity for himself to do so. I secretly admired him when I was reading up on him.
When he was five, he started to play the piano. As he grew older, he did not want to ask for allowance from his parents therefore he started to play piano at different café. He works hard and soon becomes one of the young millionaires. There are times in his life where he has party with no work. “Looking back at those days made me shuddered”. He decided to get his life together and soon, became very successful.
Aside from the common denominator of an artist, he also has his own style. Sometimes, it creates unforgettable memories.
He learned of OBV through a friend. He came to OBV with a heart of wanting to teach the children music. As a prominent musician, I was concern about the children ability to learn music since they have no experience in learning music. Although worried, I believe he have the ability to teach the children music.
He was known to have a temper but I didn’t see that in him. What I saw was that he was very serious when it comes to teaching from the sitting posture, the writing style to keeping notebooks in excellent condition. He shows the children very carefully on how to do things. The first session he reserved for talking and getting to know the children. He gave them a box of chocolate and ate one of them. None of the children makes a move for it because they were told by the guardian when it comes time to schooling and learning, no eating or talking to each other is permitted. That is who he is, a musician and a teacher. When he teaches, he is serious, when it is break time, he is at ease and comfortable. He teaches with a passion.
He brought two pianos to OBV home for the children. It was so old he calls it “eight hundred year keyboard”. It was precious because it was the one he first got when he start learning piano. He took his time to tune the pianos before bringing it to OBV home. It was precious because he took his time to drag the heavy piano with him to OBV home when there was none in the house for the kids to learn. He came regularly each week. He said one day “I’m used to the noisy environment but when I came here, I feel at peace, I need to learn to rid of all hatred and delusion of regular life and find inner peace”.
Even on the peak of his career, he sets his priorities. He chose to lend a hand to not only makes himself happy but for the unfortunate children. Art is happiness and the path moving forward. He has move forward and up in his social ladder by understanding and sharing his knowledge with the children at OBV. I realize one thing, “Love makes everything harmonious”. A sincere thank to VHM for everything he has done.
