And Just Like That, She Came Home
“House of Love- OBV” will light up their dreams and make them become a reality
The first story: “I’m in pain, lots of pain, I can’t sit!”
We know and find her through information from a newspaper:
“Taking her 6 year old daughter to six different hospitals in the city, visits to the many police departments, pleading to have her daughter examine because she was raped. But the sad mother only received rejection while her daughter is in excruciating pain…
The father passed away in 2010 due to sickness; leaving the mother and the child behind living in a small cheap rented space. The mother used to work in an embroidery factory working double or triple shifts day and night. But for the past few months, she wasn’t able to find a babysitter for her daughter, so she had to quit and find another job. She takes her daughter to school in the morning and picks her up in the afternoon. She goes to work at 2 daily and leave her daughter alone at home. During this time, she was raped repeatedly on numerous occasions by the landlord’s nephew.
On January 12, after picking her daughter up from school, she noticed her daughter ran straight to the bathroom and sat in a tub of water. She thought it was strange and examined her daughter, she discovered that her daughter’s private parts were swollen and bruised with a bad odor. That’s when she remembered that a few days earlier her daughter acted strange and said “I’m hurt, it really hurts, I can’t sit down!” “I was so careless, didn’t ask further, and now I realize that when I was away at work, she was sexually abused” she said with her face looking down.
After meeting and interacting with her, a little child in first grade, who’s supposed to be innocent and carefree yet her body and mind are severely injured. Not only did he rape her but he also forced her to watch many sex clips causing her pure mind to be contaminated. A little girl too young to fully understand and not knowing how to moderate herself leading to a “protest explosion” that she is not even aware of. She is very quick, talkative and attentive and very tamper to destroy anything near her. Sometimes she is joyful and playful yet in an instant she just cries and struggle as if someone was bullying her. Looking at her, I had a sense of sadness and indignation! Where is humanity that could treat a child like that?
The girl and her mother visited and agreed to let her stayed in OBV House
With her difficult family circumstances, a widow and an orphan, the demand to make a living does not allow her to have the time to take care of her daughter 24/24 so she was very appreciative and completely agreed to let her daughter come to the OBV house only after the first meeting. Hopefully her future will be better here, she will get to go to school and be taken care of. The problem that the OBV is concerned the most is psychotherapy for her. We are hoping that the physical and mental pain will be relieved and fade with time.
The second story: She can smile again!
I met her for the first time at a coffee shop; she went along with her mother and a lawyer who was assisting them with her case for free. Signs of worries and lost were all visible on both of their faces. She remained in me images of shyness with sad heavy eyes. The weather in Saigon is very hot yet she curled herself up in a red sweater covered up to her throat.
Not quite a young woman but missing the maturity level of an adult woman. One time after being scolded by her mother, she ran away from home. On the first night, she was robbed of her innocence while under the influence of alcohol by three men. When the mother found out, heaven and earth were trembling beneath her feet. Her mother left her job, she quit school, and the family atmosphere was filled with tears and remorse. Her mother was remorseful for her anger that chased her daughter away. And the remorseful tears of a daughter who was not wise enough to fall into the trap of life.
Although she was shown all of the official documents along with the “guaranteed” recommendation from her lawyer – who was a volunteer of OBV, the family is still skeptical about the OBV and what the OBV is doing. Facing such a big shock, the family is now “forced” to have doubt in everything. Is there really such a good place like that? Who would spend money on supporting on raising other people’s children for free? Would they sell my child again? And the family sought the help for inquiries and information from a local pastor. After the discussion meeting with the OBV, the pastor understood the work of the OBV and showed his full support, helping the family to have a peace of mind.
I also had a trip to visit the family and where they live (currently they are living with her brother’s family). And she’s still like that, a red sweater covering up to her neck and still without a smile. Her mother offered to have her live at the OBV for a day to see if she could get used to it and I completely agreed. Ever since the incident, she only stays inside the house helping her aunt watch her cousins. She would not step outside because she fear the neighbors will say things and also because of threats from one of the family of one of the men who raped her. A day at the OBV, she was able to step into a new world, more pleasant, more colorful, with friends to study and play with. She insisted to her mother “mommy, please let me go up to Aunt N, please let me go up to Aunt N.”
Today, meeting her again after three months living at the OBV, she is making the rosary with everyone at the house, she smiled. A really bright smile.

We are very happy that we were able to help two new children. We are hoping that the “House of Love- OBV” will light up their dreams and make them become a reality.
