“I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.”
When David wrote Psalm 27, he was going through a tough time. Things weren’t going his way. But he said in effect, “I’m not worried. I’m not upset. I am confident that I will see God’s goodness.” In other words, “This situation I’m in may be rough, but that’s not going to steal my vision. That’s not going to cause me to give up on my dreams. I am confident that this year, I will see God’s favor in a new way.”
“…Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.” (John 14:27)
We all have to deal with delays, inconveniences and people that are hard to get along with. We all encounter people who are rude, inconsiderate or annoying. And sometimes, it’s not a stranger; it’s somebody who is close to you. But Jesus said in John 14:27, “Stop allowing yourself to be upset and agitated.” Notice, it’s a choice. He didn’t say, “I’ll take away everything that will cause stress and frustration.” No, He said it’ll still be there, but if you have the right approach, it doesn’t have to upset you.
What you will receive is directly connected to how you believe.
I heard an old story about a little frog that was born at the bottom of a small, circular well, similar to those you might see at a typical rural farm. He and his family lived there, and he was content to play in the water, swimming all around that little well. He thought, Life doesn’t get any better than this. I have all that I need.
“You will show me the path to life, abounding joy in your presence, the delights at your right hand forever.”(Psalm 16:11)
God promises that joy is found in His presence. If you’ve accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, then His presence lives inside of you. That means you can have joy 24 hours a day, 7 days a week!
“Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”(Matthew 25:40)
The way to tell how mature you are is by the way you treat people who can’t do anything for you. We can all be kind to the boss. He may give us a promotion. We can all be friendly to the popular person at school. If they like us, everybody will be our friend. That’s easy. But if we’re going to live the way God intends, we’ve got to learn to be good to everyone. Jesus said, “When you do good to the least of these, you’re doing it unto Me.” When you go out of your way to be friend the person that everyone shuns, Jesus said, “It’s like you’re doing it unto Me.”
“In his mind a man plans his course, but the Lord directs his steps.”(Proverbs 16:9)
Oftentimes, God will use our experiences in life as stepping stones to prepare us for what He has in store next. Scripture tells us that He’ll even take the things the enemy tries to bring against us and turn them around and use them for our good. He is always leading us on a journey of preparation.
The other day, I was sitting in traffic on I-85, and just started thinking about all the time we spend waiting in life. We wait in traffic, wait in line at the grocery store, wait for a promotion, wait for a relationship to turn around or wait for a prayer to be answered. It seems we spend a lot of time in the waiting room of life!
